Lake Bolac derives its name from a local Aboriginal tribe who have lived in the district since “time immemorial”. They called the freshwater lake “Boloke”. Lake Boloke was a magnificent meeting place during the eeling season, when upwards of one thousand Aborigines would gather to feast on the eels.
