Regional Train Stations

Ararat Railway Station

Ararat is one of the key junctions within the rail network of Western Victoria, connecting passenger services directly to Melbourne, while freight lines run to the ports of Portland, Melbourne and Geelong. Ararat's rich railway heritage is recognised at the Ararat Railway Heritage Museum, located at the Ararat Railway Station.

Bacchus Marsh Railway Station

Historic in nature the Bacchus Marsh Railway Station in Station Street, provides and easy 45 minute trip into Flinders Street Station via the Regional Fast Service Train. The Bacchus Marsh train station has recently been rezoned and incorporated into the metropolitan ticketing system as zone two.

Ballan Railway Station

Historic in nature the Ballan Railway Station in Steiglitz Street also provides and excellent level of professional and personalised of which is connected to the Regional Fast Rail Line.

Ballarat Railway Station

Ballarat Railway Station was built in 1862 and is one of only three surviving nineteenth century station buildings in Australia retaining a substantial and imposing hall/tunnel. The train hall and clock tower symbolise Ballarat's importance as a provincial city and simultaneously recall the status of rail travel in the Victorian age.

Regional Airports

Ararat Aerodrome

The Ararat Aerodrome is located 4km east of the city, it comprises one paved runway and one grassed runway, tie downs are available on the tarmac. The Aerodrome is accessible seven days a week, there are no landing fees and all communication for landing must be advised to Aerodrome Manager.

Bacchus Marsh Airfield

Bacchus Marsh Airfield is a former military and government airfield that has two sealed cross strips, each in excess of 5,000 feet in length, with wide grass verges on either side. The gliding clubs conduct a combined operation launching from the grass verges while the local flight school operates simultaneously from the sealed runways.

The Airfield is owned by the Shire of Moorabool but is operated by Bacchus Marsh Aerodrome Management Inc, which comprises representatives of the Shire, the three resident gliding clubs, and the flying school.

Stawell Airport

Situated just outside Stawell, the airport has a landing tarmac for light planes seating up to twelve passengers. The north-south runway is 945m long and 20m wide and also offers a fuel facility. A commercial business operates out of the airport as airline agents specialising in charter and rental services.

Ballarat Airport

The Ballarat Airport is located 8kms (North West) from the City Centre. The Airport has three active runways. The Aerodrome has two refuelling facilities available for use by aircraft.

The standard specification for permissable aircraft size is a 6-10 seater with weight no more than 5.7 tonne, however this can vary due to seasonal conditions and aircraft type. For further information please contact the Ballarat Airport Manager.

St Arnaud Aerodrome

The airport does not function as a community entity with the only usage being for recreational fliers. It can only be used in daylight hours are there are no runway lights and there is no refueling facility available onsite.
